Born 1920, Stutterheim, Eastern Cape. Painter and graphic artist of landscapes, sea scapes, portraits, and still lifes. Works in pastel, oil, waterpaint, colour, ink, pencil, charcoal, and various graphic medium, particularly monotypes.

Donald James Madge

Born: 1920 Stutterheim, Cape Province.

A Painter and graphic artist of landscapes, seascapes, portraits and still life. Works in pastel, oil, watercolour, ink, pencil, charcoal and in various graphic media, particularly monotypes.

Studies: 1937-40 Witwatersrand Technical College, under James Gardner.

Profile: 1947-60 lived in Pretoria; from 1960 in Cape Town. Has travelled extensively throughout SA. Father of James Madge.

Exhibitions: He has participated in numerous group exhibitions in SA and one in Australia.; 1947 Kimberkey, first of 24 Solo Exhibitions held in SA and one touring England and Wales; 1959 Durban Art Gallery, joint exhibition with Errol Boyley and WH Coetzer; 1968 Durban Art Gallery, Solo Exhibition.

Represented: Durban Art Gallery; Pretoria Art Museum; Queenstown Art Gallery; William Humphreys Art Gallery, Kimberley.
